"Songs That Will Please Kids"
(by Lahri Bond, Dirty Linen)

In the Same Boat Both Paul Lippert and Sue Ribaudo have produced some fine recordings for children and here they combine talents for twice the fun. Sporting intelligent arrangements and good musicianship, this duo also bring together a solid collection of self-penned and cover tunes for a very nice album for the five- to ten-year olds. From Lippert's "If You Can Walk You Can Dance" to their delightful talking drum driven cover of Harry Belafonte's "Turn the World Around," they combine their rich voices with up-tempo semi-acoustic music for a set of songs that will please the kids and parents alike.

"Ribaudo's Voice is Engaging"
(by Barbara Schaffer, Dirty Linen)

Earth Celebration This second recording by Sue Ribaudo contains some lovely traditional and original songs and fun, rhythmic ditties intended to promote environmental awareness. Ribaudo's voice is engaging and the music and accompaniment are top rate. Children will enjoy this collection without prompting and it will leave parents in good humor, even after repeated listenings.

"A Fresh Coat of Musical Color"
(by Lahri Bond, Dirty Linen, December-January 1990-1991)

Reach to the Sky Pay attention day care, kindergarten teachers and early childhood development instructors. This is your tape. Sue Ribaudo brings her experience as a teacher and fine folk musician to this wonderful activity tape, featuring 19 songs designed to sing along and act out with. This tape is a great source for counting songs, exercise songs, and game songs.

Such well-worn tunes as "London Bridge," "Rise and Shine," "Old John Braddledum," and even "Yankee Doodle" are given a fresh coat of musical color -- primary colors, I might add. The selections are played on a healthy selection of folk instruments, from hammered dulcimer and autoharp to pump organ and body percussion. A spiral-bound book with music and words to the songs as well as resources and activity suggestions is also available. A truly superb source of simple and playful tunes for younger children.

"Old Favorites Are Given New Life"
(by Nancy Hackett, American Library Association's Booklist, September 15, 1990)

Reach to the Sky Traditional songs ("Hush Little Baby," "London Bridge," and "The Fox Went Out") predominate in this action-packed cassette filled with lively songs that invite listeners to sing and dance along. Old favorites are given new life by the arrangements and accompaniments. "Yo Te Amo" and "Boggie Woogie Freeze" are memorable new songs. The book contains the music and text along with suggested rhythmic and language activities. An extensive bibliography and a chart of learning skills enhance the tape's educational uses. Lyrics can be clearly understood and generally follow the text. Good for teachers, group leaders, and others who work with young children. Excellent for public and school libraries. Ages 3-9.

"Sung with Cheer and Warmth"
(Parents' Choice Awards -- Audio, 1994)

In the Same Boat A collection of celebratory songs, these are sung with such cheer and warmth that it's hard to listen without swaying to the melody, tapping a foot and singing along. Selections include Gary Rosen's "A Beautiful Day," "On My Grandma's Patchwork Quilt" by Larry Penn, the traditional "De Colores," Leadbelly's "We're in the Same Boat" and songs by Harry Belafonte and Billy Preston. A children's chorus complements some songs and polished musicians provide the upbeat arrangements with a global flavor. Ages 4-9.

"A Sweet Voice and Winning Personality"
(by Peter Spencer, Trenton [New Jersey] Times, February 4, 1990)

Reach to the Sky A collection of celebratory songs, Children's music seems to have gotten worse and worse lately, ultra-commercial and dominated by second-rate hacks. This cassette is a welcome change.

Sue Ribaudo sings great old folk songs, some very familiar and some less so, with a sweet voice and winning personality. There is a lot of variety, both in the songs and in the instruments. She is a fine musician and a friendly presence. This will definitely pass the 4-year-old test.

You can also get a book that contains all the songs on the tape, so your family can learn the songs and sing them together. It's a hands-on approach that is a refreshing change from the glitzy, hypnotic quality of much children's entertainment.
