NOTE: Direct box, blenders and guitar cables are carried
by Hot Soup.
An 8-channel sound system can be provided by Hot Soup for an
additional fee. The trio’s system is appropriate for rooms seating
as many as 300 (auditorium style) and for small outdoor settings.
Minimum requirements:
- 3 vocal mics -- Shure SM-58 or better
- all vocal mics must be the same model
- no windscreens unless weather conditions require their use
- 2 instrument mics -- Shure SM-57 or better --
3 instruments mics much preferred
- no windscreens unless weather conditions require their use
- 6 mic stands with booms
- 2 or 3 monitors
- 3 XLR direct lines for guitars
- Technician to run sound during check and concert
Monitors
All trio monitors will have the same mix. Overall monitor volume
is generally low.
Set Up
The trio performs in a shallow "V" formation, with the ends
slightly turned in, and positioned close together (but not so
close that instruments collide).
Mix
- Voices should always be "in front" of instruments.
- Amplification should be "invisible." The trio wants
a realistic sound -- natural-sounding reverb level
and comfortable volume -- in both the house and the monitors.
- The trio trades lead vocals frequently. They will balance
their own vocal levels based on the mix they hear in the monitors.
- As a listening guide, Sue usually carries the low part,
Christina the middle, and Jennifer the high -- but
there’s a lot of crossover.
Requests
- One stool, one small table, one AC electric outlet for
"Hot Soup" signs.
- Thank you for using the names we prefer: Sue, Christina, and
Jennifer. There is no one in the trio named Chris, Susan, Jen,
Christine, Susie, Jenny, or -- heaven forbid! -- Tina.
