Sue Trainor, Christina Muir, and Jennie Avila perform concerts tailored specifically for children and for family audiences, as well as for adults. Kids love the upbeat energy that this lively trio brings to the stage, and they love singing along with favorite Hot Soup arrangements like "The Jungle Song" and "Soup." Between Hot Soup tours, Sue Trainor focuses on working with kids. Twice she has won the "Best Female Vocalist" for kids WAMMIE Award, she was named "Best New Artist for Children" in the 1999 Children's Music Web Awards, and her children's CD Under Tables, Out Back Doors (performed with Hot Soup) has won several national awards, including the 2001 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award. Christina Muir taught music in primary school for several years and has retained her repertoire of very fun, creative, interactive songs (like "I'm a Nut" and "The Ladybug and the Centipede"). The trio's instrumentation includes guitars, lap dulcimer, thumb piano, conga, ubang and a variety of other percussion instruments. |
Hot Soup's family concert programs captivate young and old, from beginning to end. The trio encourages lots of audience participation in their songs and stories, even bringing kids (even bringing adults!) on stage to help with the show. Said Maureen Harrigan, from the Country Roads Folk Festival:
